I was skimming through my feeds last week and my eyes caught on a headline that I had to check out. The headline read “CNN reporter linked to Michael Jackson’s death!” Whoa. That got my attention. So I clicked the link through to Paul O’Flaherty‘s blog post.
To my surprise and I guess relief, Paul did not implicate a reporter in the demise of Billie Jean’s lover. Instead, he told of how news agency titled a headline in such a way that made a somewhat benign news item more compelling to read. He then did the same with his own blog headline as an example. I was link-baited!
I was very impressed in the combination of Paul’s article itself and the way he titled it that it’s still on my mind. That’s some good blogging. I liked it!
You should read Paul’s post here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Better yet, I hope you see his point and do your part to hold folks accountable for trying to reel us in with artificial bait.
